New Furry Friend Brings Joy to Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital

We are thrilled to introduce Boomer, the newest member of the Child Life team at Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. And, she’s already making hearts melt! Boomer joins the hospital as the second full-time facility dog, working alongside her handler, a Certified Child Life Specialist. Boomer will bring comfort, joy, and a little canine magic to pediatric patients and families.

Facility dogs are specially trained to perform nearly 50 tasks like interacting with patients to ease their anxiety, motivating kids to meet goals, and making the hospital feel welcoming and supportive. Boomer is a full-fledged member of the care team who will complement medical and therapeutic services.

A Celebration to Remember

Boomer’s official welcome was a day full of excitement and surprises! The celebration brought together members of the Child Life team, pediatric patients, and families for a moment of community and joy.

One special highlight was a heartwarming surprise for 13-year-old patient Sofia, who recently celebrated 10 years cancer-free. Visits from volunteer therapy dogs were the brightest part of her treatment, which made welcoming Boomer to the Child Life team especially meaningful. Sofia received tickets to the highly anticipated Buccaneers’ Creamsicle Game, giving her a memory to cherish beyond the hospital walls.

Adding more fun to the festivities, the Dunkin’ cruiser rolled in with delicious treats and freebies for guests including donuts and munchkins, swag, gift cards, and pup cups for Boomer and friends.

More Than Just a Friendly Face

Boomer follows in the pawprints of the hospital’s first facility dog, Brea, who also brings stability and support to children during their medical journeys. We can’t wait to see all the smiles, encouragement, and tail wags Boomer brings to patients and staff every day.

Here’s to Big Paws, Big Hearts, and Bright Futures!
